American Brewing Company and The American Heart Association are proud to announce:

“Heart of Gold”
Tap Night
July 18th, 2012.

All Funds Raised will be donated to the American Heart Association!

On Wednesday, July 18, an array of amazing Tacoma area restaurant establishments will join together to tap Heart of Gold , a  limited edition German Kolsch style golden ale created by American Brewing Company for this unique fundraising event for the American Heart Association (AHA).  100 percent of the sale of this brew will benefit the AHA and raise awareness for their annual South Sound Heart & Stroke Walk being held on October 6th at Cheney Stadium.

Owner, Neil Fallon, was approached by Aaron Artman, President of the Tacoma Rainiers and this year’s Event Chair for the South Sound Heart Walk, to form a team to raise funds for the walk itself.  Neil realized that American Brewing Company was in the position to be able to orchestrate an even grander scale of involvement besides participating in the walk itself.  Networking through our suppliers, Neil was able to solicit donations of raw goods in order to create a special, one time beer, that will be used as a platform to raise money and awareness for the AHA.  Neil put the creative talents of our brew master, Skip Madsen, to work to come up with a perfect “heart healthier” style of beer.

Heart of Gold is a crisp treat that is slightly dry with a subtle sweet softness on the palate. This lightly fruity ale is lower in calories without sacrificing on flavor.  With an alcohol by volume of 5% and a low bitterness rating of 30, this Kolsch is one refreshing summer ale!

Joining this event are local establishments who will donate each and every dollar spent on pints or pitchers of Heart of Gold.  Funds raised will help to teach children how to avoid obesity and live longer, to help distribute innovative CPR Anytime kits to the community, to teach hospital patients and health professionals about the risks of stroke, and to help educate people on how to reduce their own personal risk of heart disease.

Mark your calendars to visit one of these wonderful locations on July 18, order a round of Heart of Gold, and do your part to raise money for this life saving event.

4th of July CELEBRATION!

June 27, 2012

Of course the AMERICAN Brewing Company is going to have a 4th of July Celebration!

LIVE MUSIC          BBQ                BEER

We’re planning a day-long event and hope you can join us!  We’ll be opening early, noon, and staying open until 8 (ish)…just in time for you to take off and watch the fireworks display.

One of our absolute favorite performers, Steve Stefanowicz, will be on hand to lend his acoustic rock and blues music to the afternoon.  He’ll be performing from 2-5 pm and there’s no admission fee.  Meanwhile, we’ll set up a BBQ tent and have some beer soaked gourmet hot dogs OR pulled pork sandwiches for you to choose from.  Along with the meat, you’ll get sides of coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans and chips…all of this for $8.00 (includes tax).  Food available from 2-6 pm.

Why would you go anywhere else?

But wait…there’s more!  Because the holiday is right in the middle of the week, we’re going to be opening the tasting room on TUESDAY, July 3rd as well.  Get your mid-week holiday celebration started early!  We’ll be open from 3-9 and be ready to fill your growlers, serve you a beer and hope that you wander on out to the beer garden and just sit and relax.  We’ve got the perfect environment for that!

In any case, we hope you’ll join us.  All of us will be on hand to make sure you are well taken care of…and we’ll do our best to make sure your mid-week holiday is a hit!

A Time to SAVOR!

April 12, 2012

American Brewing Company is proud to announce it was chosen to participate in SAVOR.  Billed as the nation’s premier beer and food pairing event, this year’s SAVOR will be held on June 8-9, 2012 at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C.

According to the Brewers Association, a spot at SAVOR can be a brewers ticket to the big time, earning them visibility and – occasionally – a cult following.  160 breweries entered the lottery system and 60 breweries were chosen to pour their beer at the fifth edition of SAVOR.  The selected breweries are evenly distributed among eight geographic regions in the U.S.  In addition to those chosen through the lottery there will be 14 SAVOR supporting or sponsor breweries, all serving their finest beers alongside a fantastic menu designed by Chef Adam Dulye of the Monk’s Kettle in San Francisco and a select group of chefs specializing in beer and food pairings.

“What an incredible opportunity,” says owner Neil Fallon. “We will be one of 74 of the nation’s top independent craft breweries participating in an event where beer and food enthusiasts can interact directly with the brewers or brewery owners. To be pouring our beer alongside some of the finest craft breweries in the country is quite an honor.”

Chef Adam Dulye has worked hard to continue to elevate the food at SAVOR and has crafted some excellent dishes for this year’s event. The menu is designed to not only educate, but also to push the palate of the SAVOR attendees.

The menu pairing for the American Brewing Company will be:

  • Breakaway IPA – Citrus cured salmon, grapefruit, pistachio cream cheese
  • Caboose Oatmeal Stout – Coconut macaroon, whipped crème fraiche, lemon zest

In addition, Mr. Fallon will be arriving a day early to participate in a Government Affairs Hill Climb and then attend an American Craft Beer/Brewers Association Reception on Capitol Hill.   Organized by the Brewers Association, they are planning to capitalize on this collective presence in D.C.  The following is what they have planned:

On Thursday, June 7 there will be a Government Affairs Hill Climb.  Meetings will be arranged for brewery owners to meet with members of their respective congressional delegations.  The focus will be on generating support for the Federal Excise Tax legislation (H.R. 1236/S. 534) along with building the rosters of the House and Senate Small Brewer Caucuses.

This will be followed by a reception on Capitol Hill which is a broader effort by the Brewers Association to raise the profile of small brewers among Members of Congress and their staff. “I think there is a great deal of value in personally engaging with these officials,” says Mr. Fallon.  He will also be pouring American Brewing Company’s beer at this event which typically has an attendance of around 700-800 people.

One Year Anniversary Celebration!

February 14, 2012

It is hard to believe that one year ago, on February 26, 2011, we had our grand opening celebration.  It was a cold, snowy day and with a hint of nervousness and a great deal of excitement we opened our doors.  None of us were prepared for the crush of people who showed up.  It was overwhelming.

Neil Fallon(L) and Skip Madsen (R) on opening day

Now, one year later, we are able to look back over our first year and be proud, and a little awed, by what we’ve been able to accomplish.

Our Master Brewer, Skip Madsen, had already created four styles of beer for our opening day.  The American Blonde, Ed’s Red, Breakaway IPA. and Caboose Oatmeal Stout.   Since that time, we’ve also released an Organic Pale Ale, a Pilsener, a seasonal Winter Ale. and a sour with the moniker of Big Pucker!  As of this writing the next release will be a Scotch Ale with an Imperial Red not too far behind it.

Skip also collaborated with Warren Peterson, sou chef for Tom Douglas’s Brave Horse Tavernto craft an American Style Brown Ale named  Brave American. This ale went on to win a  Bronze Medal at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival, the premier beer competition for the American Beer industry.

It wasn’t long after opening that it became apparent that more time and thought needed to be put into the branding of American Brewing Company.  Seattle based Taphandles, Inc. worked closely with us to design a creative and distint master brand logo, tap handles, and labels for our 22 oz bottles. “It has been our honor to be able to work directly with a brewery in our own back yard, that not only has exciting visions of future growth, but also brews beer our Northwesterners can be proud to call local,” says Oceania Eagan, Creative Director for Taphandles. “It was a fun challenge to help American Brewing Company tell their story and develop marketing solutions that would grow with them.”

Awesome handles & labels!

The resulting designs have received recognition and attention outside of the beer industry.  Graphic Design USA presented the American Package Design Award to Taphandles for the American Brewing Company 22 oz Bottle Labels.  In September 2011, The Die Line  (the premier packaging show off site) featured our labels on their blog site.  Other sites that picked up on our designs were Oh Beautiful Beer, Hoptions, and The Pour Curator.

In July, five months after our opening, we began to bottle three of our beers.  The clinking of bottles as they rumbled down the conveyor belt was music to our ears.  We were on our way  to the next level.

Seattle Magazine’s October 2011 issue, “The Ultimate Beer Lover’s Guide”  named us one of ten “buzz-worthy” up-and-coming breweries.  Our Breakaway IPA was one of three suggested recommendations of that style (along with Boundary Bay IPA, another Skip Madsen creation).  There was also an article that featured the Pioneers of brewing, all alumni from Pike Brewing Company, one of whom was Skip.

In November 2011, owner Neil Fallon went to Washington D.C. to pour our beer for over 500 members of Congress and their staff.  American Brewing was one of 15 breweries chosen for this distinction and it was an honor to be a part of the Tenth Annual Autumn Capitol Hill Beer Tasting.

By December of 2011, we were being represented by three distributors, approved to sell our beer through eight major chain stores, were licensed to sell in two states, had eight paid employees, participated in over 17 festivals and events, and expanded our brewery…twice.  The expansion has now aligned us to be able to produce in excess of 5,000 barrels.   The blistering pace of our brewery production took our start up year numbers to an excess of 1,500 barrels.

Skip with tanks from the first of two expansions!

It was also in December that a unique opportunity came our way to be one of the first breweries to join a new on-line craft beer store called  We are now shipping our beer to enthusiastic craft beer drinkers all over the United States!

a beautiful sight!

On a more personal level, our tasting room has blossomed into a warm and inviting space that many locals and craft beer lovers enjoy visiting.  We are proud of our knowledgeable, welcoming staff who can’t wait to talk to you about our beer.  Our cask nights have become a favorite night among our customers who love to try out Skip’s newest experiment (remember tapping the pumpkin cask?) and it wouldn’t be a cask night without Big Mike’s hot dogs!  We offer 2 TV screens, shuffle board, free WiFi, complimentary popcorn, plenty of take-out menus for you to order from (delivery right to your chair) and fresh, award winning beer!

During the summer months, we opened our bay door and created an outdoor space that encouraged our customers to wander outside, play some ladder golf and soak up some much needed sunshine.  Our mug club membership sold out by December and we have a waiting list of eager beer drinkers who want their own numbered mug waiting for them when they visit!

Mug Club mugs lined up and waiting

We feature live music a couple weekends each month and have hosted countless birthday and anniversary parties, a few fundraising events, and are already booking high school reunion gatherings for next summer.

All in year one.

We want to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to everyone who lent a helping hand, gave us much needed advice, spread the word about our beer, and in any way positively impacted our growth over the course of our first year.  We are truly grateful to all of you.

Great News for Washington BEER LOVERS!

December 20, 2011

We CAN ship our beer within the state of Washington!

Yesterday, we posted about our new venture with Beerjobber, an on-line marketplace for craft beer sales.

We gave you a rudimentary explanation about the ins-and-outs of shipping beer (it was a good time to take a quick nap).

We stated that our beer, ordered via Beerjobber, could not be shipped within the state of Washington (…wrong, wrong, wrong!)

That was not correct.  It seems that, because Beerjobber has a retail license in the state of Washington, they can ship intrastate. Again, we could bog down our blog (?) with all of the details, but…

All you want to know is, HOW DO I ORDER?

You can order Breakaway IPA, Caboose Oatmeal Stout or American Blonde in cases of twelve 22 oz bottles.  If you can’t decide…you can order a mixed case where you will get four of each style!

  • Do you want to send a gift to someone who loves beer?
  • Do you know someone who had our beer while in the area, but now lives too far away to stop by?
  • Have you told your friends about our awesome beer and want to prove it to them?
  • Are you worried that too many people will order our beer so you want to stockpile some for yourself???

Help us spread the word…er, beer!

Go to the Beerjobber website and start shopping!
